LFP #44: Chasing The Beatles: Exploring The Live Music Legacy of the Fab Four
On this Live Fix Podcast episode we explore The Beatles with special guest and author of “Chasing the Beatles” Randi Barrow. In our conversation with Randi, we explore the cultural and emotional impact of The Beatles' live performance legacy, The Beatles: Get Back” documentary and Randi’s reflections on her favorite shows.
We not only explore the Beatles, we also cruise through an amazing span of live music experiences and musical genres as we talk about Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin, The Doors, Michael Jackson, Randy Nelson, Common, Modest Mouse, Big Momma Thorton, Harry Styles, Eminem, and the Beatles cover band Sgt Pepper's Lonely Bluegrass Band. And I’m pretty sure we set a Live Fix Podcast record for the most artists mentioned and topics explored in a show.
Randi shares the story about the “James Brown” lesson that the Rolling Stones learned from the TAMI Show in 1964. We also explore Elvis’s live shows and his final days, then we dive into the impact of drugs and substance abuse on an artist's performance and explore the give and take and the emotional exchange between fans and bands when an artist is emotionally struggling onstage, and then we ask the question; why do we as fans benefit from their pain and struggle, and why does that pain and struggle produce a memorable performance. We also dive into the tribal connection of fans, the spiritual dimension of live music and mourning the loss of a loved one. Enjoy the show!
